Now reducing or eliminating your monthly hydro bill becomes a reality, with the new SKYSTREAM 3.7 from SouthWest Wind Power. This state of the art turbine has a built in inverter and connects DIRECTLY to your breaker panel. Which means gone are the days of needing batteries, third party inverters and complicated connections. Wiring a Skystream is as difficult as wiring an electric dryer or electric stove! Instead of the appliance consuming power, the appliance GENERATES power that is then immediately used by you, or is pushed out to the grid to be credited to your electricity bill.
Regardless of how much you are paying each month in electrical costs, it makes financial sense to invest a little in either a wind turbine(s), solar panels or both (Hybrid). This would enable you to control your future energy costs for decades to come. Most property owners would prefer to have some control of their energy costs. Most farm owners or large home/property owners are not shocked to see a $500 or more a month hydro bill. It is these property owners who have the most to gain from producing their own energy requirements right at their site.
These individuals will pay in excess of $60 000 over the next 10 years for energy. And we must first understand exactly how much energy costs us.
A KW/H in Ontario costs approximately 5.5 cents. However we pay a lot more than that to get that precious kw/h delivered to our homes or businesses.
The actual cost of a KW/H to be delivered to your house, property or business in Ontario is more like 12 cents a KW/H. After you factor in the delivery charge, debt retirment charge, provincial sales tax and GST that precious KW/H ends up costing you much more than 5.5 cents. And what concens us greatly is that every KW/H we purchase is being subsidized by our government. Imagine then, what would happen to the price of a kw/h when they stop subsidizing our energy?
Therefore every Kw/H YOU produce is worth at least 12 cents to you, and you do not have to pay a delivery charge on power you do not end up using. So by entering into a NET METERING agreement with Hydro One, you can stay connected but always consume what energy you are producing first, only drawing on the grid when you are not producing your power requirements - and this all happens seamlessly.
Added Benefit:
If you are not using the power you are producing, you can store it on the grid, and then use it at a later date. With Net Metering, you can store your power for up to 12 months. Hydro One will not pay you, but let you use it's grid to store excess power to be used at another time. Ie cottage site storing power all winter on the grid, then using it in the summer months.
We need to invest in renewable energy. We need to start to question why we accept a market that does not care about the depreciation of our cars virtually losing thousands right off the lot, and annually there after. We spend money on cars and lose it like it's growing on trees.
