The Whisper 500 is suitable for larger power requirements. Even in marginal wind, the 500 generates more than enough power for comfortable but energy concious living. Water pumping, battery charging, utility intertie, telecommunications, and remote village power are all applications for the 500. The available high voltage option includes a transformer for wire runs up to 3 miles. Not only does this allow installation of the turbine in the best location, but it minimizes power losses and reduces downlead wire costs dramatically.
The Whisper 500 charge controller included with every Whisper 500 can monitor and control current from wind, solar, and microhydro generation. Excess power is diverted through a resistor network that can be used for area heating. A diversion load for water preheating is optional. Each input has its own circuit breaker, plus a panel mounted turbine stop switch. There is an output for direct DC loads, and float voltage is adjustable for different battery types. Large terminal lugs are included for easy wiring. An external brake switch is also included in a rainproof UL listed enclosure.
The Whisper 500 features the patented Angle-Furl Governor that all turbines in the Whisper line share. In high winds the Whisper will quietly furl its blades to protect itself from damage. Unlike other turbines that lose 80% of their output, the Whisper will maintain its power output while furling in all winds.
